dinner with Weng

So, thanks to Kat's pass by last year (and credit goes to Kats sister as well, Evil), I met this amazing woman, named Weng. She owns this blog, Apron and Sneakers, and has the most wonderful recipes ever. I tried her salmon roll as that didn't involve much cooking, steaming or measuring of any sort of ingredients :D.

Strawberries with Ricotta, Pear Tiramisu and Avocado Strawberry Semi Freddo
Last Monday, I had dinner at her house with her lovely family. Grabe! It felt like the blog had come to life. Weng! Wag mong uulitin yun ha, na overwhelm ko sa dami at sarap ng pagkain! Kakaiba. Of course I was too hungry to take a picture of anything. The one thing I did mange to snap (only because I was too full to devour it on the spot) was dessert.

Then I spent Easter Monday with them. Bwahahahaha....the food! Well, that's another post for the next time.

Count down... 3 more days to go

then Ramadan is over! I didn't manage the full 30 days in the end...pity. There were days when it was really overwhelming.
When it's over, I want to make breakfast! Pyro's breakfast photo made me want to make pancakes and savoury crepes!
Actually, does anyone know how to make the Dracula crepe? I'd tried searching online but I didn't get much help there....
Soon as you send the instructions my way, I'll post a photo of breakfast with orange juice, pancakes and dracula crepe!
yum!

Ethiopian Lunch

I met up with Leo and his friends, Giorgio and Silvia for lunch at this really chic, Ethiopian restaurant, called, KoKoB.To be honest, I didn't have the faintest idea of how Ethiopian food would be like. I wasn't paying much attention to Leo when he was describing his lunch experience with her. I was busy thinking of other things.

The bread....

the dishes
salad and cheese

The idea was to put all the food in the middle plate and eat with your hands! Quite messy and a lot of fun. I guess after you share food this way, you really are friends!

ah...the summer!

Going backwards...I just ate dinner. Grilled beef steak and home made tzatziki. It wasn't as successful as I would have wanted it to be as the yougurt was suppose to be strained - or bought as strained yougurt. The current result is a runny Tzatziki. The garlic in the whole thing was the bomb! and of course, i got to try out my new hand blender, which was really useful! I had bread for the dip and the meat was a bit dry. Would have been good with some greens, but for next time. To top this off, I'm having watermelon for desert.

New York, the next destination.
Seems like ALL my friends are getting jobs in New York. Mayra, who left last month, leaving a gapping hole in me, is there right now. Fabrizio is next up on the list. He starts with UNDP on 1 September 2010.

Drinks at Beer Oasis, Testaccio.
L-R: Rashad, Mary, FABRIZIO, Viviana, Me, Rodrigo and Rob.

Fabri, didn't want to organize anything. AT ALL. Seriously, we had a conversation and he adamantly insisted on not wanting to organize a dinner and he hated surprises. That kind of deflated me. But only just a bit. I grabbed Rashad and propsed drinks to Fabrizio. The intention really was just the 3 of us. But I remembered, Vivi was a friend too and Rob, when approached about the idea, was willing. Afraid that the drinks would bomb if it was just us, I contacted Mayra about Fabrizio's other friends, so Rodri and Mary showed it. Literally, I had a day to confirm Fabrizio wasn't standing me up and getting these people together at a certain time and place. I had my fingers crossed, Fabri wasn't going to get pissed. Luckily, he actually had fun. He liked the number of people and it was great over all. Just realizing now, that beer really makes you pee fast.
