x-files moment

They are currently replaying the x-files on Sky. I have never watched the 9th season, so this is kind of a treat for me. I just wanted to share scully's closing monologue from, "Lord of the Flies"

"In the struggle between our desire to determine who and what we will be and the identity which biology defines for us, there can only be one outcome. But even in victory, there are forces biology can not defeat — the stirrings of the soul, the mysteries of desire, the simple truth that the heart wants... what the heart wants..."

US Trip in October

The timing was amazing, because I needed to get away. I thought I was going to relax, recharge and be able to think things through. With the hectic schedule though, it just wasn't possible. With retrospect though, I was worse off back then when I first left. Oh well, we continue learning huh....

I got lucky in 09, as my boss approved my training course in Washington. I was so excited! I packed my bags until the early morn of the 21st, which was the day I was leaving. Kristine was nice enough to meet me at the office, where I left my car and she took me to the airport.
Photos can be found here
I hardly slept the night before and funnily enough, I didn't sleep on the plane either! I caught up on all the movies I missed (I swear, I had blogged this somewhere but I can't find it!) When I landed in DC, it was 3pm local time. I got stuck at immigration for the longest time EVER. Only to find out with the visa they issued me, I could have skipped the long ass queue of "others" and just joined the US side.
I prepared myself mentally, as there was a video that kept going on and on about the typical questions they'd ask (i.e. how long is your visit, what is the purpose of your travel, etc.). Exhausted and sleep deprived, I arrived infront of my immigration officer who asked me, so are you here for the World Bank? I replied, I'm with the World Food Programme. He leans in really cheesily and says, So, do you have any food to declare?
I just started laughing. He stamped my visa and I was off. By the time I saw Aissa in the arrival area, it was 5pm!
She was in the middle of moving into her new place and I got to stay there! At 8pm though, I was ready to pass out. Wished Aissa good night and slept until the next morning.

First day of Training. It was ok. Had lunch by myself at starbucks, had a sandwich and enjoyed the class. After that, I walked around, the first four photos below. I had no idea that the museums were free! Damn it. I had stumbled upon the Smithsonian, the Castle, and stupid me was scared to go in because I was afraid I'd have to pay. ggrrrr....That afternoon, I met up with Liberty from our DC office and finally got to met her. I've been working with her for a while now, knowing she's a pinay but never knew what she looked like. That same evening though, I met up with Ninong Jingle. I haven't seen him in 12 years! They took us out to dinner and we caught up with our backlog of stories!

Last day of training. Aissa picked me up and we tried popeye's chicken! Yum! Miss ko na! For merienda/early dinner. I think the fatigue of the week, and jet lag had finally caught up with me. So I crashed. Later on, Aissa's friends came over and we had fun just eating and drinking until 3am!

Unfortunately, I had made plans to meet Angel at 9am, and well, I was a little late. Our bus into NYC was leaving at 10.30. It was a four hour bus ride and we were able to catch up! Unfortunately, it was raining!
You have no idea...the first day when we got into NYC, it felt so surreal. Partially because I was hung over and because I had to be hauling my luggage up and down the stairs of the subway, in THE RAIN!
Then, we met up with Tita Fe and Tito Joseph. That was a dream. I hadn't seen them since I was 5 years old! Seriously! Anyway, we had dinner at this amazing chinese place where a pinoy was celebrating their birthday (I can't remember what it was, there was a word there, that only a noypi can spell).

Shopping. Shopping and more shopping. I bought shoes. Clothes. More shoes. Shoes again. I bought 6 pairs of shoes! hahaha My present to myself was an IPOD! :D The guy at the apple store, as nice as he was, didn't know what the hell they were selling! We hit H&M, and Cube(? Cube nga pa? the Jap place?) We had dinner at this cute place Mica had read up before. Kari was undecided with the desserts. By the time we got home, it was past 9pm. We found Alistair there...and he made curry for dinner! "Walang tulugan." And my friends meant it. We all got massages from Angel and then the singing sessions started. At 4am, I got ready to leave. Took my shower and slowly started packing up. Woke Angel up at 4.30 as it was her turn to get ready. We got a cab for the train station (at the insistence of Kari and Mica) at 6am. Angel had sprained (?) her back earlier that morning, so she was teasing me that "Grandma couldn't walk so fast". Angel and I parted ways once in DC. :(
I got picked up at the train station then promptly dropped off to the airport. (Thanks Ai!) I was so tired. On the plane though, I had to shove my hand carry up, but didn't quite manage. My seatmate, Edi was nice enough to help me put it up on the other side. That was the beginning of the end for us. He was flying to Rome for a one day meeting and I was heading into work. We needed to sleep. Instead, the entire flight, we were talking non stop!
I arrived at work, sleep deprived (again) and barely functional. I hope my boss didn't notice! But that trip, as short as it was, was so much fun. It was good to see people I haven't hooked up with in a long, long time! I can't wait to go back! Everyone I met was so amazing. Thanks so so so much, Kari for hosting us in Brooklyn. I didn't go too much in detail because some of it escape me already, but at least the important stuff was there! It was so much fun to hang out with you. *hug*

stealing quotes again from a forwarded email

Life is too short to wake up with regrets.
Love the people who treat you right. Forget the ones who don't.
Believe everything happens for a reason.
When you get a second chance, don't hesitate. Grab it with both hands.
If it changes your life, let it.
Nobody said life would be easy. They just promised it would be worth it.

---
Welcome back, Kari! I've also finally had a moment to breathe. As soon as I reorganize myself and my thoughts, I'll be able to let you know whats been going on. I hope to post most of the photos also, so it saves me time in writing!
:D
For now, I'm glad you're ok. Pictures of our trip, coming up!

2010

it's been a rough couple of months. and i know the next 364 days will be filled with interesting challenges and lessons to be learnt. however, the one thing i will take from 2009 is that, i can survive anything because i have friends who love me, who will be there for me unconditionally and a man whom i love sincerely and i can't imagine life without.

Hope you all had a wonderful end of year celebration! Here's cheering to 2010!Wishing you all good health and happiness.
